Egilsstaðir delivered the Northern Lights. Clear skies, dark sky (small town), long night (it is winter!),and a sun that was active a few days previously.
The photos that I took were pretty ordinary, so I'm showing you those taken by Thor, our tour guide.
Iceland has a tolerably good forecasting site for cloud and activity at https://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/#type=total and an excellent site to answer the question "are they active now?" at http://cygnus.rhi.hi.is/~halo/leirvogur.html - if the lines in the latter are significantly off their norm, activity is present (probably!). And this one, which looks very attractive! https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast
Most of these come from my first real exposure to the Northern Lights at Egilstader in late January and the actual photos were taken by Thor, our guide.
The following several are from the breakwater near my apartment in March. The light is Yoko Ono's Peace Light tribute to John Lennon which happily was shining at the time! Some, if not most, have been post processed to try to bring up the lights
Akureyri turned on some northern lights for us also, they were largely invisible without the camera!
