Siena, Dom and I arrived in Reykyavik on 21 December and all lay low while Covid did its thing. Pics below, most recent first, include a Golden Circle bus tour and a trip to and into a glacier
NYE went off, reputedly with close to the largest tonnage of fireworks anywhere, but all in the hands of the public. This short video was before midnight, I was too in the moment to film the overwhelming fireburst that started in earnest at midnight and went for at least 20 minutes, before returning back to this sort of level. Further outbursts at 1am and 2am. Just brilliant.
Greenhouse culture is alive and well, Iceland is virtually self-sufficient in vegies, here tomatoes! Very inexpensive thermal and electric energy can do this! The above pic from the outside, the following inside the greenhouse.
I found the sun today, at its peak, this is as high as it gets! Today,Christmas Day, the sun was up for 4 hours and 9 minutes, BUT, it stays light for an extra two hours both before and after. So that's pretty good really, 8 hours of daylight. I was prepared for a lot less. 😀
Clear skies on our first day
Yet to find out what the thing is with cats, but this and a cat cafe opposite our apartment! I know the story now ... little kids are tought to be very afraid of the Christmas Cat! The cat belongs to a woman who eats kids who are not given clothes before Christmas, and the cat helps catch the kids!
